Modeling of Speech Production from the Perspective of Neuroscience
نویسنده
چکیده
Recent neural models are capable of generating quantitative patterns of speech articulation and speech acoustics. Five models are discussed here: the DIVA model, the task dynamics model, the ACT model, the Warlaumont model and the Hickok model. These models have a more or less strong background in neuroscience. Directions are identified in this paper for a further development of quantitative production models in order to bring models more in line with recent research outcomes from neuroscience.

Researching (Non) Fluent L2 Speakers’ Oral Communication Deficiencies: A Psycholinguistic Perspective
Fluency in a second language (L2) involves a quintessentially cognitive processing system that operates quickly and effectively. The perceived importance of researching fluency through a psycholinguistic lens has motivated the related L2 research to resort to current cognitive speaking-specific models. This study, drawing on Levelt’s (1999a) psycholinguistic model, probed the deficiency sources...
متن کاملUnderstanding the neural basis of speech production using Machine Learning
Aim. We explore the problem of decoding properties of speech (e.g. volume, manner, used articulators) from neural activity recordings. From a neuroscience perspective, the goal is to understand which properties are encoded in different parts of the cortex and STN. From a machine learning (ML) perspective, we are interested discover what models are best at extracting relevant information from th...
متن کاملYou Might Transmit COVID-19 Only Via Talking; A Speech Therapy Perspective
The Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was identified in late 2019 and has gradually spread to all countries. Following the outspread of this virus as a community-acquired disease, many researchers have been trying to identify various factors involved in the transmission of the virus, as well as the ways to prevent its transmission from person to person. For example, researchers have found tha...
متن کاملImproved Bayesian Training for Context-Dependent Modeling in Continuous Persian Speech Recognition
Context-dependent modeling is a widely used technique for better phone modeling in continuous speech recognition. While different types of context-dependent models have been used, triphones have been known as the most effective ones. In this paper, a Maximum a Posteriori (MAP) estimation approach has been used to estimate the parameters of the untied triphone model set used in data-driven clust...

Background: Cerebral palsy can be defined as impaired motor control and posture caused by damage to the central nervous system and imposes damage in the future life of the person. Method: This is a report of 5 year-old case suffering from mild cerebral palsy referred to speech therapy due to the lack of clarity of speech. Evaluating speech of the child, central vocabulary approach began due to ...
